The Romanian Cultural Centre in London (RCC) - ROMANIAN DIARY: May – June 2008

The Romanian Cultural Centre in London (RCC) is an independent association
that promotes Romanian cultural programs, maintains connections within the
Romanian community in Britain, facilitates cultural exchanges between
Britain and Romania and maintains an information and data base service.

Dear RCC Members & Friends,
Welcome to the May – June 2008 edition of the RCC Diary.

I trust you are all well and that you spent a perfect Easter (that is,
Romanian Easter) and excellent Bank Holiday weekend. Luckily, we have been
blessed with fantastic weather lately and we could all rejoice and bask in
the glorious sun.

But enough about the weather. Let us thank you for your wholehearted support
for the Romanian Film Festival in London, whose fifth edition took place
from 10 to 13 April 2008. From all the feedback we have received from you up
to now, it seems you enjoyed the slightly unusual programme we proposed, a
programme based on the concept of Home & Away, showing films by Romanian
film-makers working in, as well as outside, Romania. More details on the

– we would really appreciate it if you could tell us your opinion on the
Festival. Your opinions are very important to us, and finding out what you
are thinking about us and our events has always helped us improve and
diversify our activity. We are going to post very soon a short film of the
Festival on our website. This features interviews with some of the special
guests of the event, both film-makers and film professionals. Please visit

As you can see from the listing below, it is again a good season for
Romanian culture in the UK, and especially so for music. There’s a great
choice, from the Gypsy brass of Fanfare Vagabontu to George Enescu. You can
also admire the Romanian prima ballerina Alina Cojocaru at the Royal Opera
House in London or go to see Eugene Ionesco’s absurdist masterpiece, ‘The
Bald Soprano’, in Oxford. And, of course, you can still see in cinemas the
Palme d’Or winner of 2007, Cristian Mungiu’s harrowing drama ‘4 Months, 3
Weeks, 2 Days’. Details below.

Keep sending us info about your events and we shall mention them in the
